The 2026 Wanderlist: 3 Destinations All The Cool Kids Are Visiting

The new year is in full swing and I’m certain you’ve already been added to at least two group chats about potential trips. Personally, I’ve already booked four out of my seven (fingers crossed) planned getaways for 2026. If you haven’t got a clue on what destinations you want to see yet, have no fear! I’m willing to give you a sneak peek into where the “cool kids” are vacationing this year.

Here are the three spots you’ll see all over your feed in 2026.

1. South Africa

As Amapiano and the popularity of artist TYLA continue to take over mainstream media, more people are opening their eyes and ears to the wonders of South Africa. It’s the perfect escape from the Western winter, and spending the summer in South Africa sounds like the right way to ring in the end-of-year holiday cheer.

Close your eyes and imagine with me: we’re cruising the curves of Chapman Peak Drive in a retro 1957 MGA Roadster while soft thrums of ‘Uzizwa Kanjan‘ start to play. The drums beat and deep bass pulse through the car as the crystal waves of the Atlantic crash in the distance. The golden hue from the sun casts a glow on the lush cliffside, and in this moment, your worries are a total afterthought.

When planning your trip remember that Johannesburg and Cape Town are uniquely different and your choice between depends on the vibe you want. Johannesburg is the “New York City” of the region, known for its bustling metropolis, growing business district, and culturally diverse demographic. If you want a sense for rich South African history and authentic night life, then you should have Jo’burg on your list. Conversely, Cape Town is on the opposite side of the spectrum. Often celebrated for its laid-back vibe, with a focus on the outdoors and slower pace, Cape Town is a must-see.

2. Brazil

I’m convinced that the movie Rio did the best marketing work on behalf of Brazil. Almost every aspirational travel video I see begins with an iconic scene in the Rio kids movie. To add fuel to the flame, I’ve been there myself and can attest that it feels exactly like the movie.

After a ten-hour flight from Dulles international, I landed in Rio de Janeiro on a sunny afternoon. I dropped my bags at a luggage locker–since it was too early for check-in and headed straight to Ipanema beach. What I saw left me in awe. The coastline was decorated with soft, golden sand where this turquoise water meets the shore. To my right, a group of four competed in a game of beach volleyball. To my left, vendors sold coconuts and beach chairs. I felt that tingling sense of anticipation run down my spine as I ached to get into a bikini and just lounge.

Ipanema Beach Brazil

From the caipirinhas to the sizzling buttered corn and the fresh açaí, Brazil delivered everything it promised. If you want to travel during the festive seasons, I highly recommend traveling during the end of February for carnival or during Christmas and New Years for the iconic beach celebration! If you want to explore beyond Rio de Janeiro you must include stopovers in Salvador for its right Afro-Brazilian history, São Paulo for a deeper dive into the country’s economic engine, or Itacare for surfing and hidden beaches.

3. New England

The east coast might honestly be the best coast. We have the privilege of experiencing every season, but I can attest that the summer time is the peak of it all. This year, we’re taking a step back from the bustling city heat and we’re cooling off on the coastal side of town.

Admittedly, it’s the sight of hydrangeas in full bloom against a weathered gray Cape Cod-style home that lures me in. Being just steps away from the beach, watching the sunrise while chowing down on a breakfast sandwich makes life feel worth living.

Summering in New England is perfect because you can curate your own vibe. Whether it’s an intimate luxury escape, a lively group trip with friends, or a final family holiday before the school year begins. The hardest part is choosing between Cape Cod, Nantucket, and Martha’s Vineyard. Accessibility is the main factor here. Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard( including the iconic Oak Bluffs) are on islands that require ferry rides from the mainland for access. Cape Cod is on the mainland Massachusetts, making it easier to either fly in (to Boston Logan airport), take the train, or drive.

For activities and sightseeing, Cape Cod has more to offer from Whale watching along the harbor, discovering the treasures of Whydah Pirate Museum, or kayaking along local creeks while learning about marsh life. The coastal islands Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard/Oak Bluffs have a more laid back, and exclusive charm. In July, Martha’s Vineyard is well known for the week-long African American Film festival, where itineraries are packed with beach parties and happy hours. Meanwhile the Nantucket Wine and Food festival is the place for local culinary treasures. Ultimately, there’s never a shortage of lifestyle or nature events in New England.

Honorable Mentions

I also have my eyes on Mexico City for its architecture and food scene, Chicago for that infamous city skyline, and finally Thailand. I have yet to meet someone who has been to Thailand and didn’t enjoy their time!

Happy booking and cheers to an exciting year of the horse!
